Taikang lu is great, and so is…… . The food isn’t spectacular, and it is a bit pricey (ok, so we did have a 350 rmb bottle of sake), but the setting makes it more than worth it. The minute we sat down the amuse set a great scene, tiny clams with butter and pepper, freshly cooked soybeans, soft tofu with a  creamy miso dressing.

We follow this with, tempura, grilled eel, sashimi (not the best, but we did have a small portion of roe (tuna? mullet?) that I believe was marinated and was spectacular, creamy, rich.  Salad was standard, agedashi tofu I prefer  with more of a crust but was tasty nonetheless.

I’d definitely go again, the resto is small so you should probably reserve and the wander around Taikang is a great aperitif.
